Birds chirp from the top of trees as I make my way to the shop. I have never noticed them, have never seen much of the beauty of the world before Vienna walked into my life. Now, the sky is bluer, the birds sing beautiful melodies, and the trees sway from side to side with the soft early morning breeze.

Everything is more beautiful now that she’s here.

I enter the shop and go straight to the changing rooms. The place is deserted, and I risk humming a song under my breath. The others would make fun of me nonstop if they heard me, and I’m lucky I’m always the first one to get here.

Once I’m in my working pants and shirt, I move back into the main area of the shop and glance up at the office. The lights are on, so the boss is already in. I should say good morning, as I always do. Things have changed now, but he doesn’t know about it. I wouldn’t dare say a word to him—things are still blossoming between Vienna and me, and she will want to be the one who tells him.

If it were up to me, I would marry her off the bat. She would move into my place today, and she’d resign from this job with her father. My bank manager has already said it’s quick to get a new credit card for her with access to my account. I’d put the card in her hands and tell her to go wild. She’s been wearing the same clothes—too tight for her—for ages, and I want her to have all the shopping sprees her heart desires. After filling a closet with new clothes for her, she’d have a carte blanche to redecorate. Do whatever she wants with the apartment. And if she doesn’t like the apartment, we can move. Whatever she wishes, whatever she wants to make her happy.

But Vienna is young, way younger than me, and she might have doubts about this relationship. She fears her father, and she might be afraid of going all in so soon... And it’s my responsibility to keep her safe. I clench my jaw as I make a beeline for the stairs, promising myself I will do anything in my power to raise her confidence in this relationship.

Because I’m head over heels for her, and I can’t let anyone ruin this.

Rapping my knuckles on the door, I wait for several heartbeats with no answer. So, I knock again. This time, the grunt inside the office tells me to go in. I do, opening the door, and meeting my boss's glare.

He’s usually wearing one of those. The man has a sour mood, but that never bothered me. He gave me a job when no one else would, and I don’t need to like him, just respect him.

This time, it’s different. His brows lower hard over his nose, his teeth bared, a vein throbbing in his temple. There’s rage on his face when he looks at me.
